Dnd beholder googly eyes12/27/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Lights – Obviously, the lights are the BIG DEAL here (at least for me).I did some quick Googling and within 20 minutes or so I had a plan. It was about that time that his voice began to fade into the background and all around me the lights dimmed… Meanwhile, a friend of mine at the office mentioned something about wanting to attach small LED lights, typically used for model trains, to the staff of a sorcerer miniature that he was painting. Jim was DM’ing a 5E conversion of Paizo’s “ The Shackled City Adventure Path” and I knew that we were going to be fighting at least one Beholder soon. If I remember correctly, I believe I was at the office and my mind wandered off to the recent events of our current campaign. Warning: Mild spoilers of a 10-year old published campaign ahead. Otherwise it will haunt my dreams, nagging at me like a splinter in the mind. I get kind of obsessive and HAVE to do the thing as soon as possible. Next thing I know I’ve made four trips to Hobby Lobby/Michael’s and Lowe’s and I’m in the zone. Then I think about it for a few minutes and convince myself, “I bet I could make that…” and then things just start happening (I guess this is how most things are invented?). Every now and again I have a thought like, “Oh it would be cool if someone did X” or “Man, I would like to have Y”. Anyone with a handful of salt in their eye will spend the next few seconds with their eye mostly closed trying to produce enough tears to flush the irritant out.Let me preface this by saying I am not an artist, nor do I typically do anything like this. Salt is a natural desiccant (sucks the moisture out of things), is typically readily available in D&D settings, and is completely mundane (so no risk of the anti-magic field causing issues). Personally, if I were trying to blind a Beholder by throwing stuff in its eye, I'd go for something like salt. Any kind of particulate should trigger some blinking at the very least. That said, blinking isn't a choice, it's an involuntary response when stuff gets in your eye(s). The moisture in your eyes is closer to mucus than water, there's nothing RAW that indicates that the Dust of Dryness would have any more effect on that than it would on a runny nose.
